Refrigerator Rescue

Let’s Rescue your Refrigerator.  By establishing order in your refrigerator and freezer you’ll enjoy stress-free meal preparation.

Plus, you’ll save money by not overlooking ingredients you already have on hand.

Step 1. Take inventory. Take everything out of the refrigerator and freezer, and survey what you have. Discard expired items, anything in the back of the fridge that you no longer recognize, and things you probably won’t use. You will have to move fast to prevent the food from spoiling, so avoid any distractions while working.

Step 2. Wipe out the inside and outside of the refrigerator and freezer. This should be done once a month as part of your cleaning routine. You can keep things smelling fresh by placing an open box of baking soda inside the fridge. For something different, soak a cotton ball with vanilla extract and place it on a plate inside the fridge. Let it stay until it has dried up.

Step 3. Assign a place for similar items in your refrigerator and freezer. For example, it will save you time looking for your favorite salad dressing if all salad dressings are stored on the door’s top shelf. Take advantage of the adjustable shelves and drawers inside your unit. Set the shelves to fit your favorite, most used items.

Step 4. Maximize the vertical space in the refrigerator and freezer. Additional shelves and dispensers can be added to your existing unit to make it easier to see and access what you have. You can also maximize the space by stacking your leftovers. The key to organizing your food storage efficiently is using all the same-sized containers with flat tops.

Step. 5. Place the most used items upfront. The whole family will appreciate easy access to
their favorite things. Try placing fresh fruits and vegetables front and center to help you make healthier choices.

You’ve completed the Refrigerator Rescue!  Congratulations!
