The Newest Form of Junk Mail

The Newest Form of Junk Mail

I recently caught myself doing something that I hate. It was disguised as something else, but it was still the same. What I hate is junk mail. I have done my best to eliminate it from my mailbox, but I think the newest form of junk mail is e-coupon deals. You know them as Groupon, Rakuten, and RetailMeNot.com.

I found myself lured into signing up for 6 such emails every day. They show up early in the day. So, when I sit down for my first check of email, in the morning, I waste time checking out the offers instead of getting on with the business at hand.

I have found myself contemplating the bargains they offer, just because they were a good deal. That old “It was on sale.” and “I got it at a great price” will get me every time. Never mind that I am not interested in eating at that restaurant or I live too far from that car wash.

That impulsive buying can get you in trouble really quickly. Now that I am sitting down and thinking about it, several of these e-services I have never purchased anything from. Why am I still allowing them to send me their deals?

I have decided it is time for me to take action. Reducing the email sent to my inbox will free up some time and save me some money. So, it’s “Unsubscribe” for me!

I hear you on this! I have purchased several deals though from each one, but for things that I can do with my family that I had already planned on doing even at full price (visiting George Washington’s home and the Space Needle in Seattle, as well as a haircut just after our move). I do however use a separate email address for all of these types of mailings and check them once per day.
