Reviewing Your Schedule
Reviewing Your Schedule
Are you reviewing your schedule each week?
Doing a weekly review of your schedule is a great habit to learn, but few people do it each and every week. But preparing yourself for the upcoming week before it begins makes you a star! I practice what I preach here. Every weekend (usually Sunday) I spend just a few minutes looking over my calendar and my to-do list. I map out each day, so I know what I have to do and want to do. There’s a big difference. These few minutes help me feel prepared to begin the week confident that I can do it!
A few minutes is a great investment in giving you a head start on your week Share on X
Take 10 minutes to look at your calendar before the Monday-Morning-Madness to prioritize your tasks and plan your strategy. That way you won’t always feel like you are reacting to what’s going on around you and you’ll feel more like a master of your domain. Won’t that be great!
- Do a little brain dump to get some to-dos off your mind and on your schedule for this week.
- Set some short-term goals for the week, to move your projects along.
- Note meetings and appointments for the week and get everything ready now.
- Review last week’s calendar and goals. How did it go? Did you accomplish a majority of your short-term goals? If anything still needs attention add it to this week’s schedule.
A few minutes is a great investment in giving you a head start on your week and will make you look like a star! Now, let’s start reviewing your schedule!

I always have to do this, usually either on Friday afternoons or Sunday evenings. It gives me peace of mind to have a “week at a glance” view of what is coming up. I seem to handle challenges better when I have anticipated them. It’s the unexpected stuff that always throws me for a loop. Of course, I cannot plan everything (wish I could LOL), but it does help to plan what I can. It calms me down.
I agree, it is calming to get planned what you can, then when unexpected things come up, they don’t have to be overwhelming.
Absolutely essential advice. I have a standing rule to check the following week’s schedule on Friday, and if the following week crosses a month (like the 31st is a Wednesday), this makes sure I’m looking into the next month. No surprises! If I didn’t do this, I think I’d be stressed all weekend, wondering what I might not have anticipated for Monday and beyond!
Great way to plan ahead!
I do this too, Janet. Sunday afternoon or early evening is when I review the week ahead and make my plan. There has been the occasional Sunday when I don’t plan my week and I always feel that negative, overwhelmed feeling when I wrap my planning into Monday morning. I dislike that feeling and do my best to avoid it.
It’s a great weekly ritual to start the week as calm as possible.
This is excellent advice, Janet! A weekly review is great to do. I find that in addition to that, I review my calendar and tasks throughout the day. It helps keep me on track and minimizes surprises.
Yes, daily check ins are also helpful in keeping surprises minimized.
