Check Your Passwords

Check Your Passwords

Do you have a collection of scribbled passwords on Post-It Notes stuck to your monitor?  So old school!  Maybe that worked a while ago when you had only a couple of passwords.  But these days, I bet you have many – so many you can’t remember them all.  You have to note them in a convenient location and for security reasons, it has to be someplace safe.  How do you balance safety and convenience?

For some people, a notebook stashed away in a drawer may work and for others, an online service, like Last Pass may be better. Which is more secure? It’s a matter of opinion. But whatever you do. . . do something. Start by gathering all those little pieces of paper and writing down your current passwords in one location. You can then consider where you want to permanently keep this important info.

If you already have a system for your passwords, when was the last time you updated them? It is especially important to change the passwords associated with your financial accounts regularly. Pick a combination of letters and numbers that mean something to you. Then mix it up! Don’t use the same combination for every password. This is where having them noted somewhere is going to save you. At my age, I just can’t keep it all straight in my brain.

Small organizing projects like this can make a big difference in your everyday life efficiency.
