10 Ways to Repurpose a Glass Vase

I have a small collection of glass vases. You know that kind that you get filled with delivered flowers. they are nice, but not as nice as the few crystal vases that I own. I never want to just toss them, so usually, I donate them. But every once in a while I want to keep them. How about you? Do you do the same?

Here are 10 ideas to repurpose those glass vases.

  1. Use a vase outside to house a fat candle. The glass will prevent the flame from being blown out by the wind.
  2. Collect coins inside a vase. Place it near the front door and encourage everyone to toss their spare change inside when they enter the house.
  3. Serve a summer salad in a vase. You’ll make a beautiful presentation by layering a salad in a glass vessel.
  4. Use a vase as an ice bucket or to keep a bottle of wine cold for a party.
  5. Place a vase on your bathroom vanity to store jewelry or makeup inside.
  6. Replace your utensil crock near your stove with a vase for a modern look.
  7. Re-purpose a collection of vases on your desk to hold office supplies like pencils and pens, paperclips, or rubber bands.
  8. Display a collection by filling a vase with marbles, seashells, or whatever you love and want to show off.
  9. Decorate for the holidays by displaying jelly beans in the Spring and Christmas tree ornaments in the winter in a glass vessel.
  10. Offer healthy nibbling by placing fresh fruit in a vase and leaving it on your kitchen counter.

I love repurposing. I have a jug like this that I use for flowers. Now it holds wooden kitchen utensils.

Thanks, Cathy, It’s nice to be able to use it for multiple purposes.

Like you, I’ve received my share of bouquets. And with those colorful gifts often come vases. I’ve donated or sold them at tag sales. I’ve never done it, but I’ve also heard that some florists will take them back. I love your list of suggestions for some of the keepers. I never thought about serving salad in a vase or using it to hold fruit for “nibbling.” Both are great ideas along with all of your others. So creative, Janet!

These are great ideas, Janet. I have thought of a few of these myself but not all of them. I particularly like the idea of creating a salad in a vase. I’ve seen it done at a restaurant here in town. It always looks so lovely. I also like the idea of using a vase for seasonal treats – like candy corn or jelly beans!

Yes, Diane, sweets always look so good and colorful in a vase!

I love the idea of serving a summer salad in a vase. Great creative ideas here! I will keep them in mind when I collect vases. I just purged mine recently.

Well that was fun! I run into glass vases all the time. I was just with a client whose daughter has a sea glass collection, so now that you mention this I’m going to share this idea. Glass vases are not recyclable in my area, so repurposing is what it is all about.

Another option is to take them back to a florist for reusing.

    Thanks for sharing these ideas!

I bet the sea glass looks really pretty in a vase. Thanks, Seana.

Great ideas! I have very old glass marbles I didn’t want to part with yet. Will look great in one of those florist vases.

Marbles are so colorful. I’m sure it will look great Kathy!

So what do you do with the vase full of money when it gets full? Donate? Buy something cool for the household? Inquiring minds want to know! 😉

The summer salad idea is a really nifty idea! I love the ideas using the vases for practical, useful purposes rather than just decorative. (I’m not big on decorative things; it just means more dusting!)

I take my coins to a counting machine at my bank. It usually adds up to enough to pay the dinner bill at a nice place for me and my husband.
