The Magazine Catalog Onslaught

The Magazine Catalog Onslaught

It’s that time of year—catalog time! I receive a couple of them in the mail every day. I do a lot of internet shopping, especially this time of year. When I hit the “place order” button on some shopping websites, I will be placed on a mailing list or two (or ten). That’s just the way it is.

I like to thumb through some of these catalogs for gift ideas, but I want to receive only some as soon as my holiday shopping is over. Here is how I deal with this dilemma.

I make a stack of all the catalogs I receive and place it where I’ll browse.  I don’t worry about that ever-growing pile for now. Once the holidays are over, I gather up the pile and decide which catalogs I no longer want to receive. Then, I will visit the Data Marketing & Analytics website to remove my name from the mailing lists. You keep the catalogs that you are not interested in for a reason. You will need the information on the address label for each catalog to delete your name from each catalog’s list.

It’s straightforward and takes just minutes. Soon, the amount of junk mail in your box will lessen. YEAH! It’s a good idea to do this occasionally since online shopping will not end, so being added to the mailing list will never stop. You can go ahead and tackle that magazine catalog onslaught of yours. And happy shopping!

That is a new resource for me. I’ll definitely be checking it out. I even still get catalogs for people who don’t live here anymore. Maybe I could use this to stop those from coming here!

This is a new resource for me, too!
When I order something online I always scroll down to the bottom of the order page to uncheck the box that asks you to subscribe. It’s always pre-checked for the person placing the order. This way I don’t get as many emails from companies.

Wow! I thought you all would know about this website.
Good tip to unsubscribe at the purchase point.

Thank you for the resource. I don’t get a lot of catalogs anymore, but many of my clients do. For the few I don’t want to receive, I’m going to use it. I’ll also share this with my clients, who will love it!

      Thanks for sharing Linda.
This site really works. I don’t get many catalogs anymore, but this time of year I get some unusual ones.

I thought we all knew about this service. I guess not. Glad I could help.

Yep, this is a great way to enjoy the catalogs you want in the season, and an even better way of time-blocking to keep from getting the ones you don’t want.

(Honestly, I miss catalogs. I used to get the J. Peterman catalog, and Wireless (NPR/PBS), IKEA, and so many others. The only one I ever seem to get anymore is for the Smithsonian shop, and those items are too pricey to even fantasize about purchasing. I’m glad we can get rid of the paper clutter, but I miss window shopping in catalogs and folding down corners. Surfing the web and bookmarking or leaving tabs open just isn’t as much fun.)

Yes, Julie. Catalog shopping was a different experience than today’s online experience. I kind of miss it too, but I don’t miss all the clutter the catalogs created.
