Prioritize Organizing-Closet
You can achieve a more organized life in 5-minute increments.
Would you like to have more hanging space in your closet? Wouldn’t everyone? Closet space is something we never seem to have enough of. We can fill our closets to the brim very quickly, and then they become a black hole where items disappear, never to be found again. But organizing your closet can make a big difference in simplifying your life.
It only takes a short time, about 5 minutes, to add some hanging space to your closet. By using a closet rod expander you can add up to 3 feet of hanging space. I like the closet rod from Amazon because you adjust its height and length, so it will work for just about everyone. Hang shirts on your original rod (upper rod) and pants on your new (lower rod). Surprise! You now have more closet space.

I did have an issue when using these closet rod expanders. I had a client with whom we used these rods in her walk-in closet. Well, it turned out that she got molding put in, and the vibration pulled the shelving down, making a huge mess of her closet. =( While she knew it wasn’t my fault, she asked me to help her reorganize her closet with her new customized closet. After that point, I only use these when I know that the rod I am hanging off of is actually in a stud.
I agree on the stud, and definitely the mold wasn’t your fault. We also need to have a rule of getting rid of old items when bringing new ones. There are new rods now that you don’t even need to mount to the wall https://mybasichome.org/adjustable-closet-rod/ and I think you can hang in any closet as long you have enough space on the bottom side.
This is a clever way to add more hanging space. When organizing a closet, editing is a crucial thing to do first. The amount of unused hangers, clothing you never wear, or things that belong elsewhere takes up more space than we realize. Once those things are removed, you will have more space. But even then, adding an extra hanging bar can significantly enhance the closet flow and organization. I’m unfamiliar with the exact product you mentioned, but it looks sturdy and easy to install. Both pluses.
Editing is a key for sure. We should remove any unwanted items before adding more. But if it’s a really small closet that you have to share with the spouse, it could be overwhelming and now they have these bars that don’t need wall mounting anymore https://mybasichome.org/adjustable-closet-rod/
Getting organized in five-minute increments–yes it can be done! There are so many teeny-tiny tasks that can easily be completed in a clothing closet or dresser–purging socks with holes, sorting through white t-shirts, creating a donation bag for clothes that no longer fit, etc. I think your video will inspire a lot of people to ‘Take Five!’
I like “Take Five”. It really enforces that you should “organize as you go”.
I love the fact that the rod you discuss is adjustable, because many of the ones my clients have tried (before i show up) are either metal or bungee-style and not particularly customizable for the space in the closet.
And yes, there’s so much magic you can do in a closet in just five minutes at a time!
I agree Julie. Just spending 5 minute can make a difference.
I used something like this when I owned a very old house with tiny closets, but it didn’t hang on the rod. It was a second rod, mounted a few feet below the original one. This idea is better, because you can move it to another closet if you need to or want to, and it doesn’t fill the whole closet, getting in the way of dresses and other full-lenght items.
I haven’t heard of the second rod you used. Yes, this one offers some options.
