Organized Entertaining

Organized Entertaining

It’s the holidays! Are you entertaining this season? It would be nice to enjoy your own party, wouldn’t it? You certainly can.  In fact, all it takes is planning.

Here is an entertaining timeline by Scott Roewer, from his chapter “Celebrations in You Home” from the new book, Get Organized Today.

In addition, Scott’s list will help you stay out of the kitchen and have you enjoying the party with your guests.

Dinner Party Sample Timeline

Four Weeks Out

  • Firstly, select the date for your dinner party

Three Weeks Out

  • Plan your food and drink menu for the event
  • Send out the invitations (for example, electronic, phone, or mailed)

Two Weeks Out

  • If renting equipment, or furniture, make reservations
  • Brainstorm ideas for decor
  • Select your attire for your event
  • Make your shopping list based on  your menu

One Week Out

  • Review the guest list
  • Phone anyone who has not responded to the RSVP (Surprisingly invites sometimes don’t arrive as they should)
  • Purchase all food and beverage items on your shopping list
  • Prep any food that you can cook and freeze
  • Purchase any times you need for the decor

Two Days Out

  • Begin decorating your space
  • Clean and de-clutter the space
  • If you hate cleaning, hire a cleaning crew
  • Gather all serving pieces
  • Place a sticky note in each dish designation what will be served in the dish
  • Pair flatware with each dish

One Day Before

  • Fresh flowers should be delivered or create your arrangements
  • Set the table and surely involve your family in the process if you need help
  • Finish the decorations
  • Meet with the bartender, valet, or any hired staff and share your expectations for your evening
  • Finalize your attire by gathering all clothing, jewelry, shoes, etc.
  • Because you’ve planned so well, maybe you’ll have time to have your nails done, get a massage, or meet a friend for coffee.

Of course, along with your exceptional planning, you are now on your way to enjoying the party with your guests.  Cheers!
