Below are our favorite tips to keep your garage organized!
Garages don’t need to be pretty. They need to function well. So, look vertically to use the space best. If you get anything and everything possible hanging on a wall or up on a shelf, you might have space for one of your most valuable possessions – your car. Janet
Having a shoe rack or shoe cabinet in the garage near the door to the house helps keep my garage space tidy. If you have kids at home, it’s helpful for each child to have a shoe rack or designated shelves/cubbies so they know exactly where to put their shoes. Many shoe racks are stackable, which helps if you don’t have a lot of floor space. Denene
My family loves to ride bikes. However storing them takes up quite a bit of room in the garage unless done properly. The rack is useful for hanging bikes from hooks — I have 3 adult bikes hanging from mine. Michelle
Keep things off the Garage Floor…
I have an overhead storage rack that is perfect for storing our seasonal items. Our large storage bins fit perfectly on the rack, and it gives us more floor space in and around the car. It secures to the ceiling and our car easily parks underneath. Highly recommend it if you are looking for additional storage. Sue
Bins, bins, bins...I have lots of labeled bins for various items that I keep in my garage, and of course, all are sorted by type. Lori
My garage is a work in progress. Hooks and shelving are a must for me. The goal is always to get things off the floor and use the wall space. I love these unique wall storage straps for hanging camping gear and beach umbrellas! Ann
Install Vertical Space Storage…
I would recommend hanging tools, rakes, brooms, etc. This is a sturdy wall organizer. It’s easy to see what you need and east to put your items away! Candy
Most people use their garage as storage. It’s great to have shelving to organize car-related items, gardening supplies, kid’s outdoor toys, helmets, and bikes, and if you have space for a fridge that’s great. Also, keep everything visible to you or use labels to remember what’s on your shelves. Rouba

When we moved, I gave my bathroom pantry cabinet to my sister, and she put it in her garage, where it now keeps small objects tidy and easy to find.
Nothing goes to waste, good idea.
My husband bought shelving and a wall-mounted system after we renovated our home. Between the two, we are able to get most of the items up off of the floor. The air compressor (why do we have this? I have no idea…) sits on the floor. Finally last year we had the Junkluggers take our Thule. That was giant and removing it freed a lot of space.
They have so many different garage systems to help organize and get stuff off the floors which is wonderful. I’m glad you are able to get most items off your floors.
I grew up with a garage, but haven’t had one since I went off to college, and miss the various options that a good, well-organized garage can offer. All of your team’s tips are ideal for clients with garage needs, but I think I’m most delighted by the wall storage straps. I haven’t seen those before, and can think of several clients who would find them useful. In general, I think the key to garage storage tends to be vertical solutions — up, up, and out-of-the-way! (The overhead storage does seem particular great for households with extra stuff to store, but too many older houses around here have garage doors that are only a few scant inches below the garage ceiling. Modern houses accommodate this kind of storage so much better, and I think it’s the way of the future!)
I’ve been seeing the overhead storage more and more especially in small garages and less storage rooms inside the house. It helps store extra luggage, holiday decor and a lot more for sure. It’s hard to get heavy stuff there though, but very practical.
It’s easy to ignore the garage. We have a one-story house with no basement or attic. So, guess what? The garage IS a major storage spot. The good news is my husband just purchased a shelf unit to organize some of his stuff. That will encourage further organization and clearing out. I can’t wait!
Sometimes we have to do what works for our space and make it functional, and having shelves in your garage because that’s the only place to store stuff will work great for your family. I’m sure you’ll make it look fantastic.
