Lighten Up!

Lighten Up!

I am just finishing reading “Lighten Up! Free Yourself from Clutter” by Michelle Passoff”. The rest of the title is Create The Space For Miracles By Freeing Yourself From Too Much Stuff. It’s a long title, but clear what you will learn from this read.

I have always believed that by emptying your space of unneeded items, you open yourself up for new and exciting things to enter your life. This book speaks of this idea and encourages people to take some time to think about this and write down goals for themselves.

The beginning of the book asks you to examine how your space got so messy and what you are making room for. You need to have clear goals before you begin or you will never complete your project.

Passoff does a great job covering the principles of clearing all kinds of clutter. What I liked best was the lesson on setting up a filing system. The concept is very well explained and easy to follow, even for the paper piler. Her explanation of how to process your paper so it’s not-so-overwhelming is clear and thorough.  Although going through stacks of paper will take you some time, it seems doable and that’s important.

The final chapters in the book define how to live clutter-free and explain routine practices that are doable for people. In the end, I feel that this book is a good read and the average person will learn something that will change their relationship to the clutter in their home.
