Scheduling Your Holiday Cards

Scheduling your holiday cards.

Tis the season for rushing, not finishing projects on time, or barely getting them in under the wire. Do you do this with holiday cards? Probably since you don’t really like doing them, procrastinating until what you deem the last-minute and then sit up late one night addressing and signing and stamping.

There are 6 weeks until Christmas, so we better get moving. Click To Tweet

Maybe this year you’ll schedule your card project early. Here’s a quick guide to help you (and me).

  • Six weeks before: Update your address book and purchase stamps.
  • One month before: Sign and write notes and address envelopes.
  • Three weeks before: Mail cards now and they will arrive on time.

Is this doable? Maybe not. Consider scaling down your mailing list or just sending an email. It would be more environmentally friendly. Not personal enough? Pick your most loved ones and give them the gift of your time with a phone call and get together with them.

Sounds like to could work. But, there are 6 weeks until Christmas, so we better get moving.

I love sending and receiving cards in the mail but now you’ve got me thinking about the environmental impact. Ugh.

I also love finding the perfect card and sending them to my friends. In years past I would put them up all over the living room as part of our Christmas decorations. I’m not sending cards this year.

As I mentioned to Linda. I don’t send cards any longer, but help clients with theirs. But I do love receiving them.

Sending holiday cards was something my family did growing up. I have fond memories of the five of us sitting around the dining room table addressing envelopes, signing cards, and putting on the stamps. Some years, I collaborated with my dad to create our holiday cards. We continued this tradition for our little family when raising our kids and even after they left home. But in the last bunch of years, we stopped mailing cards. We keep in touch in other ways. I still send other cards or notes during the year, but I no longer have the big end-of-year holiday card tradition.

Yes, for me too. But, funny though, we help clients send out their holiday cards.

I forgot to add…it was so great seeing you at the NERCPO conference on Saturday. A lovely surprise.

Same here. I really enjoyed it. Easy to attend virtually.

Thanks for the reminder! I have started pulling things together and reviewing my mailing lists for my business and my personal. I have several going overseas, so I like to get it done by Thanksgiving weekend so they will have plenty of time to get to the destinations. A few years ago, during the mess with the post office, my cousin sent me a card before Christmas, and it did not get to me until February the following year. Lol, I instant messaged him and said, “Merry Christmas to you too!”

Ha Ha! Yes, I have noticed a slow down with my mail this year too. So acting now is important if you want to be timely. I’m working on business gifts too.

I so needed this – I missed the boat on getting holiday cards out last year! Not letting that happen this year. 🙂

Good for you. Glad this post helps you move forward.

Only six weeks until Christmas, yes, but only 2 1/2 weeks until Hanukkah. To be inclusive, you have to start planning in October. I used to send snow-themed holiday cards to all my friends and send Thanksgiving cards (before the holiday rush) to my clients, but between the pandemic and DeJoy’s attempts to destroy the postal service, it’s hard to embrace the idea of sending cards at all. That said, I’ve been thinking of sending New Year’s cards, as it doesn’t really matter when they arrive, as 2022 will be “new” for a while. Thanks for giving me something to think about.

You are correct Julie. I should have considered Hanukkah in this post. I heard from many people that they send Thanksgiving or New Year’s cards instead of focusing on the more religious holidays.
