Scheduling Exercise

Scheduling Exercise

I decided that I was going to take another “run” at exercising regularly this year.

It’s hard for me to do. I have an irregular schedule, so attending a regular class at the gym is tough.

I was willing to try something new – drop-in classes at my local rec center. Different classes at different times, on different days. There is a lot of variety, which I like, but I didn’t know if the odd schedule was going to work for me.

This is what I have been doing. I pull out the class schedule for the month each week.  While sitting at my computer and looking at my work schedule, I  book myself for the classes that I want to attend. My thought process goes like this, “I’m busy on Wednesday night, so I can’t take that class, but I am free on Thursday morning before my client appointments. I’ll get my office work done early, so I can go.” Then I put it on my calendar.

So far I have had lots of fun trying out different classes and different teachers. It is important when adding a new activity to your life that you schedule it. Otherwise, life will move on as usual and you’ll soon forget about your new activity.

Do you struggle with getting and staying organized?

Are you afraid to start an organizing project just to be overwhelmed or lose motivation in the middle, to be left with even more chaos? You are not alone. That’s the fear of most people who don’t have time to allot to a big organizing project.
