Our Favorite Apps

Our Favorite Apps

Do you have a favorite app that makes your life a bit easier or enjoyable? Here at Basic Organization, we compiled our favorite apps that keep us living a more simplified life.

Janet

“My favorite app is Google Maps. How did I ever get anywhere without it?  I drive around Northern Virginia and Washington DC a lot.  I’m entering new addresses from clients all the time. It’s easy to type in an address and off I go. I also love that our company CRM app connects to Google Maps.  I can retrieve an address from inside the CRM and don’t even have to type it into the app. By the way, I don’t have the sound turned on in Google Maps. I find it distracting. The visual is much more useful to me.”

Sue

“What I use most often (daily in fact) is Facebook Messenger.   It keeps me in touch with my daughter who lives overseas.   I especially love that we can use video or audio calls.  As a parent and grandparent, it goes without saying that keeping in touch with family makes my heart happy.  For those in the military who serve all over the world, it’s a nice way to stay connected.”

Patti

“An app I use regularly is called SplashID.   It keeps all my unique passwords in one place. I remember the one password to get into the app. And then the app does the rest.  It stores important information like Bank Accounts, Memberships, Insurance Info, Auto Info, Serial Numbers, and many other categories. I primarily use it for web logins but may explore using it to store all my important info.”

Are any of these resonating with you?

“My favorite app is the Reminders app on my iPhone. This is where I keep all my lists, such as my daily to-do list, grocery list, menu ideas, project lists, etc.  Everything is neatly organized and pleasing to look at. It’s easy to move items around on a list and mark them off as completed. You can add pictures, and color code lists, or even ask Siri to add items to your list. I love the simplicity of it.”

Lori

“My favorite app is Instagram. I like to follow posts that offer tips about, of course, organization! Also, I like posts about new recipes that I can make and other topics that I’m interested in. I always learn so many new things to help make my life easier.”

Sandy

“I do like my Garmin Connect App.  It connects through my Garmin watch and tracks my sleep, steps, and other things I don’t pay much attention to. It is really the only app I use on a regular basis.”

Apps can certainly simplify our life.

Michelle

“I love ibotta! It rewards you with free cashback offers just for shopping online. You simply activate the ibotta app before you shop. You can also take pictures of your in-store receipts and get cash back on everyday items from top retailers. Then just withdraw your earnings to your bank account or trade it in for gift cards. Easy money!”

Candy

“Lately, I have been spending a lot of time using Mobility Ware. I am playing Spider Solitaire.  It’s a nice way to relax at the end of the day and keeps my mind sharp!”

Rouba

“I use the Waze app for driving.  Love the notifications I receive, like cops on the side of the road, dead animals on routes, and accidents.  I can’t tell you how many times I would be driving somewhere and a notification will come through of a road shut down due to a crash.  That has helped a lot with finding another route.”

Stephanie

“My favorite app is Libby, the library app. I read almost exclusively on my kindle, and I read quickly, so the cost of books was really piling up. With Libby, I can check out eBooks from my local library catalog at any time!”

We would love to hear…what are your favorite apps? How do they help you live a more simplified life?

I also like Google Maps. It seems to have great updated information – the roads around Atlanta are in a constant state of flux. I also like the Notes feature on my phone. I use it to keep track of errands, gate codes, and odd things like that. I’m going to explore SplashId. I hadn’t heard of that one.

I agree it has updated information which is helpful here in Virginia, too which, like Atlanta, is always in flux. Notes is a great app, too for keeping things organized.

I can’t pick a favourite, but I use several of the ones you’ve mentioned.

Google Maps is wonderful – and not just for finding directions. I’ve used street view to “walk around” areas, either so I’ll know what to look for when I get there, to reminisce about somewhere I’ve been, or to help me envision a place in a novel I’m reading. I’ve also used to to plan out a walking tour in my city (I talked about this in https://janetbarclay.com/combined-interests/).

Libby is also amazing! I don’t know what I’ve have done during lockdown without access to ebooks.

Wow, those are great uses for Google Maps. I love that you use it for novel settings. Thanks for the link to the walking tour, I’ll check it out.

I use FlightAware all the time because it seems I have family members constantly in the air. Google maps is my GPS choice, although I’m considering moving to Waze.

I use the Weather app pretty much every day.

I use Track My Mileage to track business miles.

I use the Messages app to text and connect quickly. FB Messenger is also handy for this.

I also love my Libby app. I can download audiobooks for free from my Library and listen while I’m driving to clients. Same for apple Podcasts.

I’m a fan of the Notes app on my iPhone. It works well. I have a to-do list called “To Do This Weekend.” So, if I have something I need to do this weekend, I will add it to this list. Then, when the weekend comes, I go down the list of what needs to be done. It’s that simple.

    • Janet Schiesl on March 27, 2023 at 1:41 pm

Very smart and simple use of Notes – getting everything out of your head for the weekend and then having it there for you when the weekend comes.

I use (or have used) all of these apps except SplashID (I use a different password manager) and Mobility Ware (as I only play word games), and was just talking about Ibotta the other day. My favorite apps are Evernote (for productivity on projects and organizing notes and clipped information), the Blue Cross Blue Shield app (for keeping medical/insurance/financial info up-to-date) and the Fitbit app (for motivating me to get my 5 miles/day walked.

I am a fan of the Libby App as well. My reading habit was really adding up, so it has saved me a ton of money. The Calm app is also one of my go-to apps. The sleep stories are so relaxing when I can’t fall asleep.

I also love Libby. There are other sites that offer free books. The one I like the best is The Fussy Librarian. You should check it out.
