It’s Time to Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet
It’s Time to Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet
Do you know what to do with an expired prescription or over-the-counter drugs once you declutter your medicine cabinet? Of course, it’s not as easy as donating clothing or recycling paper.
Now’s the time to purge and organize this small space in your home.
This Saturday (April 22nd) is the National Drug Take-Back initiative.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

I’m glad you’re giving everyone this quick reminder.
I always remember and plan to do the drug take-back, but the events are usually only scheduled to be manned until 2 p.m., but the police get bored and often leave by 1 p.m. (and anything before early afternoon on a weekend just doesn’t happen). Happily, our sheriff’s department has one of those kiosks, like a giant ATM for drop-offs on weekdays. However people do it, it is, as you say, the “safe, convenient, and responsible” thing to do.
Actually…I’m glad I clicked through your link, as it turns out that the new Veteran’s Affairs building that went up just across the street from me during the pandemic (but pushed back, behind trees) will be having the drug take-back this year. That’s a five minute walk instead of a much longer drive! You’ve done an extra-good good deed!
That’s great!
That’s good that your sheriff’s department has a kiosk. Often times, if something isn’t convenient, people will not take advantage of it, no matter how great a service.
I love that there is a day dedicated to this! This is worth the effort, for our health as well as our space. I’m lucky that my local police department has a drop box that I can use all year long. Having convenient options is very helpful. That said, when there is a specific day, that can light a fire under you to get you to focus, right?
That’s very true. Having a dedicated day is an easier reminder than having something lingering in our to-do lists.
Great reminder!
I will also remind my clients who may have switched medications and have old prescriptions laying about.
I hope they have a convenient spot to drop them. Always a nice task to get done.
