Carpooling

With gas prices climbing, carpooling has become a cost-saving option for many. To organize a smooth ride, figure out the details before starting the car.

Whose car will be used? If you plan to switch cars, make up a schedule.

Who will be driving? Usually, the car owner drives, but be clear on this as well.

For those not using their car, will you pay? Are you going to take into account the cost of fuel, mileage, parking, tolls, insurance, and vehicle maintenance?

Additionally, how about the rules? Carpool etiquette is important.   Will you listen to the radio? Who chooses the station? How about using cell phones, food, and drinks? Make the rules clear.

Have a plan B, if the driver is sick or has car trouble. Changes to the plan are inevitable. Discuss options before this happens and you will be prepared.
