Organizing Your Entry Closet

Organizing Your Entry Closet

By Basic Organization team member Tracy Wells

Let’s face it! Some of us are lacking the proper storage space in our entryways.

Usually, the entryway is the dumping ground for shoes and other personal items. Those of you with children can easily understand what I am saying. How can we take control of this space and leave a clean impression on anyone who enters our home? After all, it’s the first space a guest or family member (including myself) will see as they enter your home sweet home.

One solution is to start with the foyer closet. There are lots of ways to turn a basic closet into an organizational “smorgasbord”.  First, mount large hooks or a hook rack inside the door to hold purses, tote bags, backpacks, or umbrellas. Next, install a closet rod extender which will add a lower rack to hold shorter coats and give you double the amount of closet rod space.

Are you still looking to add more space?  If so, buy a fabric closet hanging shelf to store hats or other personal items.  For the thrifty thinker, loop some clear plastic bags around a few hangers to store gloves, scarves, or easily lost and mismatched items. Last but not least, use a bin or basket on the floor to neatly tuck away those shoes.

Do you struggle with getting and staying organized?
