Get Organized in 2012 – Week 42

If you have been following the “Get Organized in 2012” all year, you probably see a difference in your home and your time. Now, it may be a matter of keeping up your organizing routine. Are you spotting areas where clutter is collecting and are you able to clear it up quickly?

Week 42

Day 1. Walk through your home with a box and a bag in your hands. Look for areas where clutter is collecting. Work on one area at a time, bagging the trash and boxing up items that belong somewhere else in your home. As you travel room to room, deliver items back to their resting places (put things away).

Day 2. Do the same exercise as the day before with paper. Walk through your home gathering all loose paper. Once you have collected all of it, sit down and sort through it. File the documents that you need to keep and trash, shred or recycle what is no longer viable.

Day 3. You probably deposited a lot of stuff in your storage area or basement on Day 1. Today, take some time in your storage area to sort through and find homes for items. Maybe there is stuff in storage that you don’t need anymore. Let it go.

Day 4. If you store “off-season” clothing somewhere in your home, today is the day to get it organized. Spend a little time to do this task now and you will set yourself up for an organized “clothes swap out” next Spring.

Day 5. Do you have a pile of old electronics somewhere in your home? Maybe it hasn’t even become a pile yet and is spread all over the place. Gather all these items. Make a decision as to whether you need them. Recycling these items has become easy, with many locations where you can easily drop off your stuff. Try your local Best Buy. In my experience, they take anything with a cord or batteries for recycling.
