Creating an Effective File System

What does your current filing system look like?

  • Folders?
  • File cabinet?
  • Piles?

To have an effective system you need to know what you have. So first on your agenda should be to sort the paper. Separate your bank statements, bills, medical records, etc. Discard anything that is outdated.

Secondly, create files for each type of paperwork. Make tabs with a label, so you will be able to find needed items in the future.

Finally, how you sort the file folders in your drawer is up to you; alphabetically, or by type. Whatever makes sense to you.

Maintain your system by taking a few minutes each week to file your paperwork.

That’s all it takes. It certainly will save you time and frustration when you are looking for that all-important piece of paper.

So go ahead and create an effective File System!  You’ll be glad you did.
